Once you arrive, our friendly staff will introduce you to ranch activities, cabins, and facilities. If you want, you can visit our fly fishing center located in the Blacksmith shop. Our fly fishing vacations program offer great fun and a challenge to people of all different skill levels. If you have never fished before but want to take a whack at it, Colorado Trails guest ranch is the perfect place to learn the art of fly fishing. Our experienced angler staff will teach you everything that you need to know, in order to succeed as a trout fisher.

During your week long fishing vacation, you will build confidence, and catch fish along the way. Your trout fishing instructor will teach you all the basics and where in the water these sport fish like to hide. You won’t run out of good fishing spots around here. Durango is famous for being rich in trout. In the  lakes and ponds surrounding and on our ranch, there are an abundance of rainbow trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout, and brook trout. Talk about adventure – some of the most exciting trout fishing in the world is on or near Colorado Trails Ranch.

Here at our Durango dude ranch, we offer half-day, and full day fishing options. The half-day options are often chosen by guests who still want to gain a little experience fishing. There are many different spots to can choose to fish at. El Dorado Ranch Pond is just 4 miles from the ranch, and it is a great place for a beginner to start out. Barbless wires are used for fishing. Your kids are welcome to learn all about fishing, but must be accompanied by adults. Don’t worry about leaving them behind, they’ll be too busy having fun in our guest ranch kids program.

Rainbow Ranch Pond is also another great place to learn the basics of fishing. Guides will be accompanying guests at this fishing spot. Worden’s Stretch is abundant in trout, and the waters have been improved to create a perfect fish habitat. El Dorado Ranch is filled with cutthroat and exciting angling lies waiting along a private stretch of the Florida River. Rainbow Ranch provides a spectacular habitat for its trout, so when you visit this one, you know you will be coming back with some fresh fish. Last but not least, the Animas River Downtown is a perfect spot for gold medal fishing. It’s packed with rainbow and brown trout, the main waterway cuttings through the historic town of Durango.
